Mayor’s Report
On June 16 Mayor Pranger and Councillor Watchorn attended the Agassiz Fire Department’s inaugural recruit graduation ceremony. They had the pleasure to congratulate four recruits being inducted into the Agassiz fire fighter force. The trainees underwent several months of training, including exterior firefighter training and first responder level three, demonstrating their commitment to professionalism.

Council’s Report
Councillor Spaeti highlighted the upcoming Dinner on the Farm at Earthwise Agassiz (6031 Golf Road), taking place Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm. Tickets are $125 ($115 for members), and can be purchased on their website at: https://earthwisesociety.bc.ca/dinner-on-the-farm-2026/
Councillor Schwichtenberg noted that the Fraser Valley Regional Library Summer Reading Club started on June 21, and is running with the theme “Under the Sea”. Every Summer, the Fraser Valley Regional Library hosts a Summer Reading Club (SRC) for all ages. If you record your reading all summer long you can have a chance to win prizes. 2025 Annual Report
The 2025 Annual Report was approved by Council.
The Annual Report contains information from the District's independent auditors and showcases projects by department that were completed in the year, along with goals and objectives for 2025 and 2026.
Mayor Pranger stated that she "Appreciated the detail in this report, and wished it was required reading as it is well written and very informative."

National Drowning Prevention Week
Mayor and Council have officially declared July 19 – 25, 2026 National Drowning Prevention Week in the District of Kent. Over 450 people die every year from drowning.
During the week of July 19, 2026, take the time to learn more about water-related injury through training programs, WaterSmart® public education, drowning research and aquatic safety standards at: https://www.lifesaving.bc.ca
Swimming is an important life skill which is why the District works with local schools to provide seasonal access to the Ferny Coombe Pool. Private and semi-private swimming lessons are also available along with a range of aquatic programs. The completion of the Lets'emot Regional Recreation & Aquatic Centre will create year-round accessibility for this life skill. Please consider donating to help us fill the pool, every little bit helps. You can donate in person, on the phone, or online at www.kentbc.ca/Fill_the_Pool. All contributors exceeding $25.00 will receive a tax receipt, and donations of $250 or more will also receive commemorative apparel.
District of Kent Awarded the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting
The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting has been awarded to the District of Kent by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its annual financial report of the fiscal year ending December 2024. The District’s report was judged by an impartial Canadian Review Committee to ensure it met the high standards of the program, including clearly communicating the municipality’s financial story.
Purchase of Electric Compact SUV
Mayor and Council approved the purchase of a 2026 Toyota BZ XLE AWD, Electric Compact SUV. The process of converting our fleet to electric vehicles where possible is identified in the District’s Climate Action Plan, as they reach end of life. 1) Slide into Summer – Friday, June 26 from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
The annual FREE Slide into Summer event is back for its last summer at the Ferny Coombe Pool, 6820 Pioneer Avenue. Come and enjoy the inflatable water slide, variety of activities, hot dogs, and refreshing drinks. This event promises fun for everyone and is bound to be a splashing good time!
2) Canada Day – Wednesday, July 1
A soccer party is taking place in Pioneer Park, 7167 Pioneer Avenue, from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. In the style of the FIFA World Cup, immerse yourself in activities that you’ll get a kick out of from an inflatable sports coliseum to a Soccer Showdown. Bring your family, friends and fellow soccer enthusiasts for day that’s sure to be a goal!
