The District of Kent, located in the picturesque Eastern Fraser Valley, is offering an exciting opportunity in our Public Works Department for a Time-Durated Equipment Operator 2.
Equipment Operator 2’s perform tasks ranging from general labouring work to the operation of Municipal equipment. The incumbent will be required to operate equipment assigned, including equipment identified as ‘Equipment Operator 1’ as well as large equipment such as the grader, sweeper, roadside and ditch mowers, backhoe, loader, flusher truck, dump truck, and large tractors or trucks with snow or ice control equipment attached, and other related equipment. Additional duties include performing daily inspections/minor maintenance, assisting in light repairs/maintenance, and operating equipment in accordance with recognized and acceptable practices.
Requirements include:
- Grade 12 diploma or proven equivalent;
- Course completion in equipment operation or combination of related training and experience;
- Minimum three (3) consecutive years’ experience operating heavy equipment or meeting the qualification and evaluation as tested in the Public Works construction and maintenance field;
- Qualified certification as a Heavy Equipment Operator or minimum Level ‘B’ certification for two
primary pieces of equipment, backhoe and loader; and - Valid BC Driver’s Licence, Class 3 with air endorsement, with recent abstract.
Pay and benefits for this bargaining unit position is in accordance with the Collective Agreement, CUPE Local 458. The 2025 post-probationary wage rate for this position is $36.28 per hour plus a comprehensive benefit package and participation in the Municipal Pension Plan (MPP).
