Garbage, Recycling and Composting

The District of Kent does not offer municipal residential garbage pickup, community members must use a private waste disposal contractor.

Recycling

We encourage residents to recycle appropriate materials at the Agassiz Recycling and Bottle Depot Centre or arrange a curb-side pick up program with their private waste disposal contractor.

Waste Wise

Did you know that 68% of waste sent to landfills is not garbage? We can do better!

The District has joined the Fraser Valley initiative to reach the goal of 80% waste diversion by 2020, which means all residents and businesses will be required to participate in the sorting program beginning April 1, 2020. Check out Be Waste Wise for more information about sorting guidelines.

Compost Materials

Yard waste can be dropped off year-round in the District's Green Waste Bin located at Agassiz Recycling & Bottle Depot - 7689 Industrial Way, Agassiz

Acceptable material includes: leaves, grass clippings, garden and flower bed residue, brush consisting of hedge trimmings and small branches.

Kent Recycling also accepts compost and yard-waste year-round for a small fee depending on the size of the load. Accepted items are soil, grass clippings, cuttings, and branches up to 5” diameter.

Christmas Tree Disposal

Locations offering disposal of Christmas Trees in Agassiz are the following:

Agassiz Goat and Dairy Farm - 6055 Else Road, Agassiz

Please ensure the trees are "clean", no ornaments or decorations can be left on the tree. Please leave in the field by the mailbox.

Allenby's Farm Store - 7323 Pioneer Avenue, Agassiz

Hours: Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, Saturday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Drop off your Christmas trees at Allenby's Farm Store, they will bring them to the Agassiz Goat and Dairy Farm for disposal. Please make a donation for the local food bank.

Hours: Monday to Saturday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Please note: you may be charged a fee to process your tree, be sure to check for holiday facility operating hours.

Remember to make sure your tree is clean of any decorations.
