Mayor’s Report

Mayor Pranger recently had the pleasure of visiting the Holten Canadian War Memorial Cemetery in the Netherlands. She noted the gratitude and respect the Dutch have for the Canadian Soldiers who aided in their liberation, especially highlighting how well the cemeteries are maintained.

 

Council’s Report

Councillor Spaeti shared that the Ultimate Pool Party and Barn Dance fundraiser which was held August 7 raised nearly 11 thousand dollars. Mayor Pranger also thanked those involved in organizing the event, expressing it was a pleasure to attend.

Councillor Schwichtenberg was thrilled to relay that at the Last in the Pool event at the Ferny Coombe Pool on August 30, all attendees were entered into the draw to be the “last in the pool”. It was fitting that the winning patron was Bobby Penner and his son, Aaron. Bobby grew up in Agassiz and trained at the Ferny Coombe Pool. He is an Olympic gold medalist from the 2000 Sydney Paralympics. Bobby has been a vital part of the Lets’emό:t Fundraising Committee.

World Rivers Day, is on September 27, 2026. Councillor Schwichtenberg encouraged everyone to consider experiencing a guided paddle on the mighty Fraser River from Hope to Agassiz. You can bring your own boat or hop onto one of their large, guided Voyageur canoes. Terry Fox Run Cancellation 

Council was disappointed to receive news that the September 20, 2026 Harrison Hot Springs – Agassiz Terry Fox run has been cancelled due to unexpected scheduling issues and unpredictable local air quality. Staff were directed to contact the event organizers well in advance of the 2027 event to avoid a similar situation.

Purple Light Nights 

In support of shining a light on the impacts of domestic violence, Council voted in favour of illuminating Municipal Hall Purple during the month of October. Domestic violence has no place in our community, and to help honour those who have lost their lives we will have purple light bulbs for sale by donation during the month of October. All proceeds benefit Purple Light Nights, so they may continue their campaign of awareness.

Veterans Crosswalk – Vimy Road

Councillor Schwichtenberg noted she has received several complements regarding the completion of the Veterans Crosswalk near the Vimy Park Cenotaph. Expressing how proud she is of the District collaboration with the Royal Canadian Legion, honouring the courage, service, and sacrifice of our veterans.
