Harrison Highlands Open Burning Restrictions

Council directed staff to amend Bylaw 1448 Fire Prevention and Regulation to prohibit all open burning within the Harrison Highlands development. If the amendment is adopted, effective January 1, 2025, only natural gas, propane, or charcoal briquette fires would be permitted. With the densification of phase 3 near completion at Harrison Highlands, it presents a higher risk should a fire occur and may spread from property to property. Consultant BA Blackwell & Associates produced the Community Wildfire Protection Plan in 2018, listing the Mount Woodside corridor as one of three high fire hazards in the District.
