Public Notice Public Spaces to Cool Off & BC Emergency Alert High Streamflow Advisory

With warm weather approaching it's the perfect time to enjoy our local public spaces to cool down. Always be sure to check the individual locations for hours of operation, especially for the upcoming long weekend.

Due to a landslide on the Chilcotin River, the Province of BC has issued an emergency flood warning and flood watch, which includes the Fraser River. The eventual rising of water over the top of the landslide material may lead to sudden erosion of the debris and total failure of the landslide dam. This could potentially cause an outburst flood downstream of the landslide.

For your safety, please avoid cooling off at the Fraser River due to anticipated fast moving water. Potential high stream levels may cause riverbanks to be unstable and there may be an increase in debris.

People and boaters are asked to immediately leave the following areas: anywhere along the banks of the Chilcotin River from Hanceville to the Fraser River, and anywhere along the banks of the Fraser River from the Chilcotin River to Hope.

Stay cool, stay safe, and enjoy the beautiful weather responsibly. For updates on the flood alert be sure to visit: https://www.emergencyinfobc.gov.bc.ca/

For questions regarding the localized high streamflow advisory please contact Emergency Program Coordinator Ryan Chiarot at EOC@kentbc.ca.
