Wildfire Update
Agassiz, British Columbia – Two wildfires continue to burn within the District of Kent municipal boundaries.
The Bear Mountain fire is located on BC Hydro right-of-way and continues to slowly increase in size. BC Wildfire, BC Hydro and the Agassiz Fire Department will continue to monitor the fire over the weekend. There is no impact to buildings and infrastructure.
The District of Kent emergency operating centre is supporting the site operations. The State of Local Emergency and evacuation alerts remain in effect.
At the Limbert Mountain fire, progress was made to contain the fire with heavy equipment and ground crews by constructing a fire guard. The fire is close to 50% guarded. No extreme fire behaviour, but may be subject to change with wind patterns. Properties and homes at the base of the mountain have been protected with sprinklers.
The AFD will have an overnight firefighter crew situated to monitor for ember casting.
Access to the area continues to be limited to local traffic only. Residents can expect smokey skies for the next couple of days.
