District of Kent Launches Official Community Plan Update

Agassiz, British Columbia — The District of Kent is updating our Official Community Plan (OCP). The OCP has a vision, goals, and policies that help us make decisions about land use in our community. This Fall our OCP Update will focus on future housing and growth needs.

The Province has passed new legislation to help build more homes. Now, single-family lots can have 3–4 homes, depending on their lot size and available water/waste water services. In our District, that means single-dwelling lots may include more homes — up to four units in total, such as a secondary suite/coach house, townhouse, or fourplex apartment. With these legislative requirements, we must now update the housing sections of our OCP, so the plan is consistent. The deadline set by the Province for this update is December 31, 2025.

The OCP Update will ensure the plan reflects the community's values for the future while also meeting new Provincial housing requirements.

"Updating our OCP is about planning together to address housing challenges, balance economic growth, and protect what we value to ensure Kent grows so that our community is sustainable, welcoming and vibrant." said Mayor Sylvia Pranger.

The District invites you to get involved in the planning process. Upcoming engagement opportunities include:

  • Community Survey: From Friday, October 3 – 31, 2025, our survey is available for the public to participate in, either online at www.kentbc.ca/OCPUpdate or in person with printed copies available at Municipal Hall (7170 Cheam Avenue), the Agassiz Library (7140 Cheam Avenue), and the Community Recreation and Cultural Centre (6660 Pioneer Avenue).
  • Community Workshop: Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM at the Community Recreation and Cultural Centre (6660 Pioneer Avenue).

The District values your time and input. To say thank you, the District will be entering the names of everyone who completes a survey or attends the community workshop into a draw for a chance to win one of the following:

  • One pie per month from the Agassiz Cabin Fever Junction Bakery for one year (12 pies)
  • One hanging flower basket in Spring 2026
  • One 10-pack of admission to the recreation centre or swimming pool
