Mayor's Report

On November 11, 2025, Mayor Pranger Councillors Schwichtenberg, and Spaeti attended the Remembrance Day Ceremony at the Cenotaph in Vimy Park. Mayor Pranger expressed her gratitude at how well attended the event was, noting she was happy to see such a great turnout.

 

Mayor Pranger promoted the upcoming Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation It's a Wonderful Breakfast event. A sit-down buffet breakfast on December 4, 2025, from 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM at the Chartwell Lynnwood Retirement Residences in Chilliwack. Tickets for the breakfast are $30 per person and can be purchased at www.fvhcf.ca/chilliwackbreakfast

 

Council's Report

Councillor Spaeti took a moment to highlight the upcoming Agassiz Harrison Chamber of Commerce Mentor Mixer event from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM on December 4, 2025, at the Barnhouse Lodge. This event is designed to bring together women in business and leadership from across the Fraser Valley for an evening of meaningful conversation, guided mentorship, and festive networking.

Small Business Saturday

November 29, 2025, is Small Business Saturday, a day to appreciate the small businesses in our community. Small Business Saturday takes place the day after Black Friday, which is typically dominated by big box stores and online giants. For small businesses, this day provides a vital boost in visibility and sales to carry them into the all-important holiday season.

Fundraising Pickleball Tournament

Mayor and Council unanimously voted in favour of waiving the gym rental fees at the Community Recreation and Cultural Centre for a fundraising pickleball tournament on January 24, 2026. The tournament, organized by local volunteers, will raise money for the Lets'emot Regional Recreation and Aquatic Centre.

 

Games will begin at 9:00 AM, to participate there is a $50 entry fee, all skill levels are welcome! If you are interested registering or learning more about the event please contact: Susan Inkman at 604-845-0890

 

Accessible Parking Awareness Month

November is "Accessible Parking Awareness Month", the theme for this year's campaign is Reserved for a Reason, a message to remind us about the importance of ensuring that designated accessible parking spaces are available for the people who need them.

 

More than 1 in 5 British Columbians experience a disability. True inclusion is achieved by people and communities working together to advance accessibility and promote positive social change. To learn more about Accessibility Parking Awareness Month visit www.sparc.bc.ca

 

Remembrance Day Crosswalk Installation

Mayor and Council voted unanimously to install a Remembrance Day themed crosswalk, commemorating Veterans who served in war (example image below). The installation will be crossing Vimy Road at the Morrow Road intersection, and will be completed in the late spring of 2026.

Aquatic Professional Leadership Award

On November 19, 2025, the BC Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA) presented Emalie Sutton, District of Kent aquatics professional, with the 2025 DB Perks Young Professional Aquatics Award. This award celebrates the outstanding achievements of an emerging leader in the early stages of their aquatics career.

Emalie is a seasonal aquatic leader for the District, she has been part of the aquatic community for over seven years and has taught advanced courses since 2019.

"Her mentorship of new lifeguards and dedication to advancing water-safety education reflects exactly what is needed to address BC's aquatics crisis and ensure safe, equitable opportunities for all to enjoy the water." Said Katie Fenn, CEO of BCRPA.

Upcoming Community Events:

 

  • Agassiz Food Drive: December 2 – 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM – The annual Agassiz food drive led by the Agassiz Fire Department, along with Emergency Services Partners, Kent Harrison Search and Rescue, and BC Ambulance Service is back! Firefighters and First Responders will be going door to door seeking your donations to help those in need during this holiday season.

Firefighters would appreciate If donations could be left outside at the front door for speedy neighborhood canvassing. Donations can also be dropped off at the Fire Hall located at 7652 Industrial Way. Please give generously for those in need!

 

  • Winter Night Lights: December 12 (4:30 PM – 8:30 PM) and 13 (2:30 PM – 7:30 PM) – Winter Night Lights is back for the sixth year! During the event you can enjoy food trucks, mini train rides, and other fun activities along Pioneer Avenue. For the full schedule of events be sure to follow the Community Recreation and Cultural Centre on Facebook!
