Deputy Mayor’s Update
Deputy Mayor Schwichtenberg provided an update on the Fraser Valley Conservancy Haig Highway planting project during her report to Council. Due to the recent heat, more watering than expected has been required and thankfully the plants are doing well. On May 24, 2023, Deputy Mayor Schwichtenberg attended the Fraser Valley Regional Library (FVRL) Zoom meeting and is happy to report that library use is up, as are the number of registered library cards.
FVRL has some wonderful resources available for summer fun, including contests, day camps, and batpacks or telescopes for rent. Check them out here: https://www.fvrl.bc.ca/
Mayor Pranger along with the Chief Administrative Officer are attending the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Annual Conference in Toronto.
Councillor Schwichtenberg watering plants along Haig Highway
District Road Paving
Council approved the next step in the process of getting several roads in the District paved by the end of 2023. Sections of roads slated for paving include Sutherland Road, Mountain View Road, Mill Road, Cartier Road, and Kennedy Road. The anticipated schedule includes releasing the tender at the end of June and the work is expected to take 12 weeks with completion in October.
St. Anthony’s Thrift Store Fundraiser
During her report to Council, Councillor Spaeti mentioned that St. Anthony’s Thrift Store will be holding a fundraiser for the Lets’emot Regional Aquatic Centre. The event will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023, with all proceeds being donated. Hamburgers and hot dogs will also be available for purchase between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.
