From the meeting held on March 9, 2026
Mayor's Report
On February 26, Mayor Pranger was honoured to attend a lunch with representatives from HUB and Peace Hills Insurance. During this lunch as a part of the Hometown Turnaround Program the representatives presented the District of Kent with a $5,000 donation cheque for the new Lets'emot Regional Recreation and Aquatic Centre (LRRAC), as well as a commitment to providing $5,000 per year for the next four years. The total donation of $25,000 is a gift to the community which Mayor and Council are grateful to receive.

Mayor Pranger took a moment to highlight and commend the hard work of Barb Janzen who has worked tirelessly with the LRRAC Fundraising Committee and who made this donation possible.
Council's Report
Councillor Watchorn spoke passionately about the cancellation of the Fraser-Cascade's welding program offered in partnership with Thompson Rivers University since 2015. This program brought opportunities to those in Hope, who have limited access to public transportation to attend other vocational schools, as well as life changing impacts for the participating students. Both Councillors Post and Spaeti had the honour of attending a past graduating class of the welding program. Students of diverse backgrounds were inspired to leave with skills, sense of community and purpose.
In support of the advocacy work by the Fraser-Cascade School District 78 Board, Council unanimously voted to send a letter to the Premier, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Post-Secondary and Future Skills to consider reinstating the necessary funding for fundamental programs like the Fraser-Cascade welding program that are integral to the economy of the Province. Mayor Pranger noted that this program is not a luxury, it is a necessity, and it is important to provide a future for students who do not fit into the academic stream.
Councillor Spaeti was thrilled to see the turn out for the Family Fun Day event at the Community Recreation and Cultural Centre was over 300 individuals. And added there will be an Easter Egg Hunt on April 4, 2026, in Pioneer Park near the Agassiz-Harrison Museum (7167 Pioneer Ave). This event will run from 10:00 am – 11:00 am, and will include an easter egg hunt, hot chocolate, crafts, and prizes.
Men's Shed – Home Shed Search
The Men's Shed is a space for men to build friendships and engage in community activities, helping to reduce the risk of social isolation and its negative impact. The Agassiz-Harrison Men's Shed is looking for a place that can be used for meetings and to work on projects, an ideal location would be at least the size of a two car garage, suggestions for available locations can be provided to A.P MacDonald at 604-793-8732.
