Deputy Mayor's Report

On June 6, 2025, Deputy Mayor Watchorn was pleased to attend the Agassiz Elementary Secondary School Graduation Ceremony. He noted many of the graduates were students of his from Kent Elementary School and was amazed at the transition of these students from Elementary School to Graduates. He also highlighted the over $90,000 in bursaries and scholarships that were presented to the graduating class.

Council Report

Councillor Schwichtenberg attended the Motocross Track Charity Fundraiser for BC Children's Hospital on June 1, 2025, noting how impressed she was with the skills she saw in riding motocross bikes. She also highlighted how wonderful and passionate the event volunteers were.

Councillor Spaeti highlighted upcoming free educational workshops from the Agassiz Harrison Food Coalition at Earthwise Agassiz (6031 Golf Road). The FREE hands-on workshops are designed to help you grow your food organically and are scheduled as follows:

  • June 14, 2025 at 11:00 AM – Building Healthy Soils
  • June 28, 2025 at 11:00 AM – Organic Gardening 101
  • July 12, 2025 at 11:00 AM – Perennial Food Crops
  • July 26, 2025 at 11:00 AM – Successional Gardening

Alm Park Overnight Camping Amendment

Mayor and Council have directed staff to implement a policy restricting camping in Alm Park to special events only. Removing non-special event camping from Alm Park will contribute to the long-term preservation of the park’s natural environment.

Sanitary Dump Station Payment Kiosks

Council received an update on the first-year operations of the payment kiosks at two sanitary dump stations located in the parking lot of the Community Recreation and Cultural Centre, 6660 Pioneer Avenue. To-date the units have generated gross revenue of $19,000, covering both installation and annual operating expenses of the payment kiosks. Future revenues will be allocated toward the cost recovery of the second sanitary dump station and subsequently directed to the Sanitary Systems Capital Fund to support repairs and future growth of this infrastructure.

On Saturday June 14, 2025 starting at 11:00 AM there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony for the official opening of the new Harrison Highlands Park Adventure Playground! 2) Slide into Summer – June 27, 2025

On Friday June 27, 2025 from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM the Community Recreation and Cultural Centre is hosting the annual free Slide into Summer event at the Ferny Coombe Pool (6820 Pioneer Avenue). Featuring an inflatable water slide, a variety of activities, hot dogs, and refreshing drinks, this event promises fun for everyone. Enjoy games, musical entertainment, and much more. It’s bound to be a splashing good time!

3) Canada Day Prehistoric Party at Pioneer Park – July 1, 2025

On Tuesday July 1, 2025 from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM there will be a prehistoric party at Pioneer Park (7167 Pioneer Avenue) to commemorate Canada Day in true Jurassic style. Immerse yourself in a day filled with dino-mite activities, Jurassic-themed inflatables, Canada Day cupcakes, a climbing wall, and a reptile petting zoo that will transport you to a time when dinosaurs roamed the Great White North. Bring your family, friends, and fellow dino enthusiasts for a day that's bound to be a colossal hit!

4) Tourism Harrison River Valley Canada Day Celebration

Mayor Pranger and Council have been invited to join the Tourism Harrison River Valley Canada Day Flag-raising ceremony at 12:00 PM on Tuesday July 1, 2025 as well as their Canada Day Parade at 5:00 PM in Harrison Hot Springs. The Harrison Canada Day Celebration will include a pancake breakfast, pet parade, flag-raising ceremony, children's activities, live music performances, parade, and a fireworks display in the evening.
