January 26, 2026 - Council Highlights
From the meeting held on January 26, 2026
Council's Report
Councillor Spaeti noted that the Hope Junction Community Centre has resources available for those in recovery. The centre has support ranging from one-to-one meetings, support groups, and other events. Councillor Post took a moment to highlight the achievement of local historian Bev Kennedy as she has recently become a member of the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP). Each CAHP membership application takes months of review, as their credentials must be checked, and applications brought before the board of directors. This honour is going to a well deserving member of our community with Bev helping our community for many years, and now serving as the vice president of the Old Cemetery Preservation Society.
This Society looks after the historic Kent Municipal Cemetery (Old Cemetery) on Limbert Mountain, ensuring it is preserved for many years to come with funding from the District.
Lets'emot Regional Recreation and Aquatic Centre Fundraising
Council voted in favour of appointing Karen Dumas as a Member at Large to the Lets'emot Regional Aquatic Centre Fundraising Committee. The Committee still has vacancies, those interested in joining should contact Skylar Gormley at 604-796-8891 or by emailing sgormley@kentbc.ca.
In addition, Council expressed their gratitude to the pickleball players and fundraising efforts from the January 24 Pickleball Tournament. This event raised over $3,000 for the Lets'emot Regional Recreation and Aquatic Centre (LRRAC), thanks to volunteers, and support from the Lets'emot Regional Aquatic Centre Fundraising Committee!
