FRESHET UPDATE

Agassiz, British Columbia – The River Forecast Centre is predicting that the Fraser River and Harrison River levels will rise this weekend and early next week. While issues are not expected along the Fraser, levels in the Harrison River could match last year’s peak as early as Monday and may continue to increase over the following days.

For the latest information on current streamflow conditions please visit https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/environment/air-land-water/water/drought-flooding-dikes-dams/river-forecast-centre/current-streamflow-conditions-and-flood-forecast-modeling

Residents are asked to stay away from riverbanks, dikes and fast flowing bodies of water as level may rise quickly due to this year’s delayed freshet melt. Seepage or shallow ponding in agricultural fields located in close proximity to the District’s dikes may occur and this is not unusual.

If you do not already have an emergency plan in place for your household, now is an excellent time to create one. More information on emergency planning can be found at https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/safety/emergency-preparedness-response-recovery/preparedbc/make-your-plan
