Council's Report
Councillor Post highlighted the resources for small businesses available from Community Futures North Fraser, including financing and loans, as well as workshops and business advice. Business owners in our community are encouraged to check out the Community Futures North Fraser website: https://northfraser.org/
Councillor Spaeti noted that the January 24, Burgers, Brews, and Bids event on was a big success raising over $3,000 thanks to the eager donations of many local business. On the same day, a Pickleball tournament fundraiser was held and also raised over $3,000 for the pool. A total of over $6,000 was generated for the Lets'emot Regional Recreation & Aquatic Centre.
BC Heritage Week – Proclamation
Mayor and Council officially declared February 16 to 22, 2026 as Heritage Week in the District of Kent. The theme for this year is Stir the Pot a time to celebrate food as heritage, highlighting the importance of food for bringing together culture, memory, family, and community.
Heritage Week is a Province-wide celebration that invites communities across BC to recognize and celebrate local history, culture, and heritage. We encourage residents to visit the Agassiz-Harrison Museum and Visitor Centre (7011 Pioneer Ave) to explore our local history. International Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness – Proclamation
Mayor and Council unanimously voted in favour of proclaiming March 26 International Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness in the District of Kent. To show our support for those suffering from Epilepsy and to help spread awareness, Municipal Hall will be illuminated purple on March 26, 2026.
International Purple Day is an annual day used to help raise much needed awareness of epilepsy a disease that affects approximately 1% of the population (over 500,000 people in BC). To learn more about this day and how you can help support those affected by Epilepsy visit: https://bcepilepsy.com
Free Family Fun Day – Community Recreation and Cultural Centre
This Saturday, February 14, the Community Recreation and Cultural Centre will be hosting a Family Fun Day event from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. This event will include games, inflatables, community booths, snacks, and prizes!
There will be an educational FireSmart booth at the event with information regarding emergency preparedness, FireSmart best practices, and the Alertable App, a free tool that keeps you notified of local emergencies.
