Mayor's Report
On August 19, Mayor Pranger attended the announcement by Minister Dix of the new long-term care facility which will replace the Bradley Centre at Chilliwack General Hospital. This new facility is exciting news for the Fraser Valley Hospital District and all of its residents.
Mayor Pranger noted how appreciative she is of the Friends of the Dikes headed up by Laurens van Vliet for working to clean up the public dike trails. Please keep your dogs on leashes, and clean up any waste your dogs leave behind.
Council Reports
Councillor Schwichtenberg reported that the Agassiz Harrison Museum will hold their annual Christmas Beef Raffle which will provide funding for restoration of the caboose and speeder, as well as repair of the museum windows. Tickets will be available in September for $5 each or $20 for five tickets, and can be purchased at the Agassiz Harrison Museum (7011 Pioneer Ave), or by calling 604-796-3545. Councillor Spaeti highlighted the upcoming fundraising events for the Lets'emot Regional Recreation & Aquatic Centre (LRRAC).
- On August 30 from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM there will be an End of Summer Splash at the Ferny Coombe Pool (6820 Pioneer Ave). This will include a dunk tank, BBQ, pool games and more! Entry will be by donation, although some activities will require an additional cost to participate. Learn more by visiting the Community Recreation and Cultural Centre Facebook Page.
All funds raised from the Agassiz Fire Department Charitable Society Boat Raffle will go to the LRRAC. Tickets are $50 each, and the grand prize is a 14 ft Marlon utility welded aluminum boat, boat trailer, and 9.9 HP engine. The draw will take place October 11, 2024. Councillor Post attended the August 10, Agassiz Speedway Len Jansen Memorial Late Model Invitational Championship. He noted that if you have not yet been to the speedway it is a good time to see participants from all across the lower mainland and beyond with drivers competing from Fort St. John, Prince George, and all across BC.

Literacy is Life Proclamation
Mayor Pranger proclaimed September as Literacy Month in the District of Kent. Agassiz-Harrison Community Services with the support of the Agassiz Branch of the Fraser Valley Regional Library, are campaigning to raise awareness of the importance of literacy for all British Columbians. Literacy is important to all citizens as it impacts every area of modern life: healthcare, civic engagement, education, employment, and the economy. While many residents have adequate literacy skills - too many simply do not.

World Suicide Prevention Day Proclamation
September 10, 2024 is declared World Suicide Prevention Day in the District of Kent, to support families who have lost loved ones to suicide and to hopefully help prevent further tragedies. There will be a free online event on September 10, 2024 hosted by the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention.

Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation (FVHCF) Fundraising Events
The Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation provides funding for the benefit of health care services within the Fraser Health Authority including much needed hospital equipment, public health, mental health and home health programs and services. Prostate Cancer Awareness Month
September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, to help raise awareness, and show support for the 1 in 8 Canadian men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime Municipal Hall will be lighting up blue for the month of September.
