The District of Kent, and the Eastern Fraser Valley, has been issued an orange (very high health risk*) air quality warning due to elevated levels of fine particulate matter (air pollution particles). This is due to smoke from the Brunswick Creek wildfire near Boston Bar in the Fraser Canyon.

Smoke levels can change quickly with weather and fire behaviour.

During this air quality warning be sure to:

•           Check in on vulnerable neighbours and loved ones.
•           When possible, use portable HEPA air cleaners or do-it-yourself box fan air cleaners. Visit https://youtu.be/oo2n9J2AJk0?si=QYAmOoF4AnKoYPm3 to learn how to make your own DIY air cleaner.
•           Keep windows and doors closed while running air filtration. If it’s hot, focus on staying cool.
•           Seek medical help if you experience severe symptoms such as wheezing, chest pain, trouble breathing or severe cough. Call 911 in emergencies.
•           Visit spaces like the Agassiz Library (7140 Cheam Ave) or the Community Recreation and Cultural Centre (6660 Pioneer Ave) for clean air.
