October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the District of Kent. The purpose of the Purple Light Nights Campaign is to shine a light on intimate partner violence and demonstrate the impacts this type of violence has on children and families. During the month of October, local businesses, government and non-government agencies, and residents, will be encouraged to decorate their businesses or residences with purple lights, purple decorations, yard signs, and silhouettes representing victims and “silent witnesses” (those who have lost their lives in the acts of domestic violence).
Purple light bulbs, wrist bands, lawn signs, and mugs are available at Municipal Hall (7170 Cheam Ave.), the Agassiz RCMP (6869 Lougheed Hwy.), or the Community Recreation and Cultural Centre (6660 Pioneer Ave.) during regular business hours. Informational displays will also be set up at the RCMP detachment and the CRCC. For further information, please call Pamela at 604-796-1014 or Darlene at 604-796-1603, at Agassiz RCMP Victim Services.
The lights on Municipal Hall will be set to purple during the month of October to show support for the victims of intimate partner violence.
