FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 1, 2022
Kent, B.C. – The District of Kent is encouraging residents to get involved in the newly launched active transportation network planning process by participating in our survey.
Funded in part through the federal Active Transportation Fund, the updated plan will establish a collective vision for active transportation in Kent and identify priority projects and locations for infrastructure. As a strategic document, the final Plan provides a roadmap for priority improvements to active transportation infrastructure, policies, and programs over the short-, medium-, and long-term.
“Active transportation is an important piece of our overall transportation and infrastructure plan. Feedback from the community is vital and will help ensure that our District is accessible to everyone. Please consider taking the survey and help shape the future of active transportation in Kent.” – Mayor Sylvia Pranger
Active transportation is any human-powered mode of transportation such as walking, cycling, skateboarding, or using a mobility aid, like a wheelchair. Other new and emerging transportation trends like e-bikes and e-scooters may also fit in this category and could be considered for this plan.
Input from community members may assist with the foundation of this project. The District wants to hear from a range of voices to create an updated Active Transportation Network Plan that is inclusive and will serve the community for generations to come.
To gather perspectives on active transportation issues and opportunities in Kent, there will be several opportunities for residents to provide feedback. To launch the community engagement process, residents are encouraged to participate in a community survey. The survey will help District staff better understand how residents currently move around the District for their daily needs, identify current barriers to active transportation and explore opportunities to encourage more active transportation. The deadline to participate in the survey is December 16, 2022. Paper copies will also be available at District Hall during regular office hours at 7170 Cheam Ave, Agassiz, BC V0M 1A0.
