Mayor's Report
On October 17, Mayor Pranger and Councillor Spaeti attended the business mixer hosted by Sq'éwqel Development Corporation (SqDC). Councillor Spaeti noted this was a great networking event to chat with local businesses, business owners, and spend some time with Seabird Island Councillors.

Council's Report
Councillor Schwichtenberg highlighted the upcoming Agassiz-Harrison Museum Dickens Christmas Tea event taking place from 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM on December 7, 2024 (7272 Morrow Rd, Agassiz). Councillor Spaeti announced the Stories of the Wild event is this Saturday, November 2, from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM, hosted by the Agassiz Harrison Food Coalition. Visit Earthwise Agassiz (6031 Golf Rd) to celebrate the seasonal shift from summer to winter with workshops, activities, presentations, and more. Councillor Spaeti mentioned the upcoming annual Spooktacular which will take place October 31 at the Agassiz Agricultural Hall (6800 Pioneer Ave). The FREE event will run from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM and include games, snacks, a community pumpkin carving display, and more! This event is possible thanks to the partnership of the Agassiz Harrison Lions Club, and the Agassiz Agricultural & Horticultural Association.
Councillor Watchorn noted during his attendance at the October 24, Agassiz Fire Department Annual General Meeting he found the automated external defibrillator (AED) program of interest. The AED program is provided by the Agassiz Fire Department for local businesses, including funding and training for businesses that have AEDs. Staff was directed to create a map of all automated external defibrillator locations within local businesses.
Councillor Post shared Community Futures North Fraser have approved a $500 sponsorship of the Winter Night Lights event. He also noted that Community Futures North Fraser has an abundance of great programs and any business within the District of Kent is encouraged to apply. Traffic Safety on the Mount Woodside Corridor - Delegation
Mr. Ed Monro presented his concerns regarding the frequency of accidents on the Mount Woodside Corridor. Mayor and Council recognize the need for increasing the safety measures along this corridor, especially for cyclists, which they have been advocating with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure on an ongoing basis.
Recently at the 2024 Union of BC Municipalities Convention, this issue was presented again to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. While Mayor and Council continue to promote increased safety at this location, residents are encouraged to contact their local Member of Legislative Assembly or the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to express their concerns.
Royal Canadian Legion #32 Remembrance Day Ceremony
Mayor Pranger has been invited by the Royal Canadian Legion #32 to place a wreath at the Cenotaph on November 11, 2024. There will be a Parade leaving the Agassiz Legion Hall at 10:45 AM, the Parade will make its way to the Cenotaph for the ceremony to begin at 11:00 AM.

Pacific Region Transport Canada Rail Safety
Understanding Rail Safety is an important part of living in a community with close proximity to a major railway. Transport Canada Rail Safety is actively working to share information to address rail safety concerns with initiatives such as Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Railway Extreme Heat and Fire Risk Mitigation Rules, and Operation Lifesaver.

Consultation on the Federal Taxation of Vacant Lands
To encourage private sector landowners to develop their vacant land, Budget 2024 announced that the government is considering a tax on residentially zoned vacant land. The federal government will engage with each province, territory, and municipality to adapt concepts to meet local needs.
