From the meeting of October 26, 2020
In a presentation to Council, Bev Kennedy and Roy Vander Wyk, Board members from the Agassiz Harrison Historical Society presented the Society’s idea for creating public art displays in the community.
These outdoor exhibits will assist in conservation of the large artifacts as well as enhancing parks and outdoor spaces while highlighting the community’s heritage.
Initially the Society was intending to apply for a grant with a deadline of October 29; however, upon further reflection they have decided to take the extra time to plan this project and will consider other grant opportunities.

Council approved staff to remove the large evergreen shrubs at the Valley View Cemetery and the overgrown shrubs at the entrance at Centennial Park.
Four Crimson Acer Maple trees will replace the shrubs at Valley View Cemetery which will provide shade over the existing benches and complete the tree plantings for each corner of the four cemetery sections.
This year, the District received $2,200 in funding through the BC Hydro Community ReGreening Program to enhance the Valley View Cemetery. Up to 20 maple trees were identified for planting along the cemetery pathways and for the future columbarium section for a total estimated cost of $5,500.
On October 13, 2020 a strong windstorm that blew through most of the Lower Mainland, caused some structural damage and a lot of debris within the District of Kent. One structure that was knocked over by the strong wind gusts was the Visitor Information Kiosk, next to the “Teacup” corner.
The Kiosk was built in 1990 by Cheam Building and Design and is primarily made of wood with an aluminum roof and post covers.
In 2018, under the Communities in Bloom Program, the Visitor Information Kiosk Centre was refurbished with new visitor information signage, flowerpots, roped fencing and fresh bark mulch.
A report with an option of including a piece of heritage artifact as heard in the delegation by the Agassiz Harrison Historical Society will be brought back to Council at a future date.
