Mayor's Report
On November 22, Mayor Pranger and several Councillors attended the Annual Agassiz Fire Department Year-End Banquet. Mayor Pranger congratulated and thanked Fire Chief Basten for his dedicated 40 years of service, as well as all the firefighters for their contributions to our community.
On December 5, from 5:00 – 9:00 PM the Agassiz Fire Department and local First Responders will be going door to door seeking your donations for the annual food drive. Firefighters would appreciate if donations could be left outside at your front door to expedite the neighborhood canvasing. Donations can also be dropped off at the Fire Hall located at 7652 Industrial Way, Agassiz.
Mayor Pranger and Councillor Post took time this past weekend to volunteer for the Winter Bells Campaign which launched on November 22. All funds raised from this campaign will go directly to supporting the Agassiz Harrison Food Bank and Social Services. The campaign will run every Friday and Saturday until December 23. Volunteers will be stationed at two locations, the Red Apple in Agassiz (7116 Pioneer Ave) and the Black Forest Restaurant in Harrison Hot Springs (180 Esplanade Ave). The campaign is still seeking volunteers, for those interested please contact Freddy Marks at 604-997-5398.
On November 14, Mayor Pranger attended the Fraser Valley Regional District Regional and Corporate Services Committee meeting. During the meeting the proposal for transit services between the District of Kent and the City of Mission along Highway 7 was discussed. Phase 2 of the North of Fraser Transit Feasibility Study has been approved to be implemented. The study will provide detailed costing, determine infrastructure requirements, determine participants in the service and undertake engagement with local governments, First Nations, the general public and stakeholders.
On November 23 the Lights by the Lake opening ceremony was held in Harrison Hot Springs. The event hosted by Tourism Harrison River Valley and sponsored by several stakeholders including the Village of Harrison Hot Springs was well attended. The Lights by the Lake holiday displays will stay up until January 12, 2025.
Community Futures North Fraser - Delegation
Executive Director Ms. Gwen Schmidt presented the District with information regarding the Community Futures North Fraser organization and the services they provide. Highlighting statistics during their 2023/2024 year within the community, such as:

"Light up for Fibromyalgia Awareness"
Municipal Hall will be illuminated purple on May 12, 2025 for Fibromyalgia Awareness. About 5% of Canada's population, over 2,000,000 individuals of all ages and races, are afflicted with Fibromyalgia.

Project A.I.M
In 2023, Council endorsed a trial initiative to provide free menstrual products in designated District of Kent facilities. Mayor and Council have unanimously voted to drop the trial and permanently continue offering free menstrual products within some District facilities.

Nominations for the Teaching Excellence Awards
The Province is seeking nominations of outstanding teachers and educators for the Prime Minister's Awards for Teaching Excellence. Nominations should be for educators who provide Teaching Excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, and for Early Childhood Education.

Winter Night Lights
On December 13 & 14 the Agassiz Winter Night Lights event will take place along 7011 Pioneer Ave. During the event you can enjoy food trucks, mini train rides, and other fun activities. Residents 12 years old and younger, in the District of Kent, Seabird, Sts'ailes, Cheam First Nation, and the Village of Harrison Hot Springs, have exclusive access to register to receive gifts from Santa's workshop! Pre-registration, starting on December 1st, is required to receive a gift (spots fill up fast so register quickly!). Local District Businesses can register to participate in the Light up the District of Kent contest. To participate decorate your business for the season, decorations should be up by December 1, and remain in place for the judges until January 2. The winner will receive a $100 prepaid Visa card generously donated by Tourism Harrison River Valley. Please register your business by December 13.
