The District of Kent proudly celebrates National Indigenous Peoples Day and the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
Support from First Nation communities gives us the opportunity to continually learn and grow. Two local events include Chawathil's Indigenous Day Coastal Jam and Market on Friday, June 21 and Sasquatch Days Coastal Jam on Saturday, June 22. For more details on these events, as well as others, please visit their Facebook pages.
In the spirit of Lets'emot, of one mind, one heart, the District of Kent is committed to long term relationships with local First Nation communities and values the respect, trust, and cooperation of building partnerships together to benefit all our communities.
“I am so happy the District of Kent has taken the lead on developing the Let'semot Regional Recreation and Aquatic Centre. It is another opportunity to come closer together and that is one of the primary values of Lets'emot. When you are of one mind, you can’t stand far apart, you can’t ignore each other, you must stand close together, in your mind and in your heart, for the right reasons. This centre goes a long way in demonstrating what reconciliation needs to be.” – Stó:lō Tribal Council Chief Tyrone McNeil, June 17, 2024.
