Mayor’s Update
On May 5, Mayor Pranger participated in the Cheam First Nation march to honour and remember missing and murdered Indigenous women girls and two-spirit individuals. Mayor Pranger hopes that the march was a time of healing for everyone.

Special (Open) Meeting
During the Special Meeting on May 7, the audit findings report for the year ended December 31, 2023 was presented to Council as prepared by KPMG LLP. Presentation material is included in the agenda which can be viewed on our website at kentbc.ca/agendas/.
The audit findings report along with financial statements will also be made available to the public in the 2024 Annual Report which will be published in late June.
Lets’emot Regional Recreation & Aquatic Centre
Council unanimously supported issuing a Letter of Intent to Chandos Construction LP for the construction of the Lets’emot Regional Recreation & Aquatic Centre. While further negotiations between Bingham Hill Architects (Design Team) and Chandos Construction LP (Construction Manager) continue, the projected construction contract price is $23,476,013, to be adjusted with any additional savings identified. It is anticipated that site works will begin in early July, with a draft project timeline of a 20-month construction period.
A public session (open house format) is scheduled on May 21, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Community Recreation & Cultural Centre, 6660 Pioneer Avenue. Canada Day Preparations
Canada Day preparations are underway, and this year’s theme will be “Rodeo”. Events and activities planned for the day at Pioneer Park, include a live performance by Ryan McAllister, line dancing performances from Country Cuties, food trucks, carnival games with prizes, and Canada Day cupcakes.
Council approved the recommendation to close a section of Pioneer Avenue for the day and will be handing out the cupcakes. See you there!
Storytime in the Park Program
Mayor Pranger, or her designate, will be a Special Guest Reader at the Storytime in the Park on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at the Community Recreation and Cultural Centre (6660 Pioneer Ave) from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.

World Sepsis Day
On September 13th the District of Kent Municipal Hall will be illuminated in pink to support World Sepsis Day. Sepsis, which has been declared a global healthcare priority by the World Health Organization, claims 1/5 of global deaths annually.

Mayor to Attend Sasquatch Days
Mayor Pranger, or her designate, will be attending the opening procession, and VIP Paddle at Sasquatch Days as hosted by the Sts’ailes and Village of Harrison Hot Springs on June 22, 2024.
The two-day intercultural event includes friendly competition between numerous war canoe race clubs from across the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island and United States. Agassiz-Harrison Lions Club Annual Classic Car Show
Council approved the request from the Agassiz-Harrison Lions Club to close Pioneer Avenue for their annual Car Show and Fundraiser on Sunday, July 7, 2024. All funds raised from the show will be donated back to the community. Follow the club on Facebook @AgassizHarrisonLions to learn more.

Harrison Highlands Community Park
Council has endorsed the preferred concept and phasing over three years for the Harrison Highlands Community Park. This plan will take place from 2024 – 2026, and is based on feedback received from the public during an Open House session and additional feedback from the public via email and telephone.
