From the meeting of March 28, 2022
On March 17, Mayor Pranger, and members of the Lets’emot Community to Community Forum had the opportunity to meet in-person with Premier Horgan to provide feedback as to the impact of the Atmospheric River disaster and response, as well as identifying areas for improvement. Thank you to Mayor Popove and the City of Chilliwack for hosting the meeting and to MLA Dan Coulter, and MLA Kelli Paddon for facilitating this important discussion.
Mayor Pranger met with the Executive Director of Agassiz-Harrison Community Services; Grace Admiraal who is working to make sure all our community organizations are connected so we can all play an effective part in making our communities the best they can be.
Along with Chief Administrative Officer Mah and Directors of Engineering, Mick Theissen and Martin Rankin, we met virtually with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to discuss transportation issues. Ongoing communication will help build a better relationship.

Councillor Post congratulated Mick Thiessen, Director of Engineering on his retirement at the end of March. On behalf of all of us at the District, thank you for your years of service, dedication and hard work serving the District, you will be missed!
Councillor Schwichtenberg announced that the Speaker Series hosted by the Agassiz-Harrison Museum is back on. The theme is “Season of the Wild” with three engaging speakers ensuring an informative and enjoyable evening.
First in the series taking place this Wednesday, March 30th at 7:00 PM, is presented by Sarah Schreier, Executive Director of the Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society.

The Museum will also be holding an Easter Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, April 16th. Pre-register by dropping in or calling the Museum.

Councillor Spaeti attended the St. Anthony’s Fundraiser for Ukraine where they raised over $9,500.

Mark your calendars! On April 23, 2022, from 11 AM to 3 PM in Pioneer Park the District of Kent will be hosting a community event “Lets Connect Kent”. The theme is to encourage residents and businesses to come together and join the celebration and to thank community members for doing their part during the past two years to keep each safe from Covid-19.

Councillor Spaeti thanked Chief Administrative Officer Wallace Mah and staff for the many accomplishments over the past year as presented in his report.
Councillor Spaeti highlighted the $3,002,650 received in grants that contributed to the following projects: Agassiz Slough Floodbox replacement, Community Works Fund, Provincial Small Communities Grant, Aberdeen Building Revitalization, Victim Services Grant, Kent Flood Risk & Mitigation Plan, Traffic Fine Revenue Sharing, Municipal Hall Backup Generator (Phase 1), Fire Department Operational Training.
These highlights will be part of the 2021 Annual Report coming out in June.
Council approved the request from the Agassiz-Harrison Lions Club to close Pioneer Avenue for their Car Show.
