Deputy Mayor’s Update

Deputy Mayor Kerstin Schwichtenberg attended the June 19th Burger and Brew fundraising event for the Agassiz-Harrison Museum. Mayor Pranger and Councillor Spaeti also attended the sold-out event. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be going towards museum maintenance, including the painting of the main building (just completed) and the painting of the caboose out front.

Thanks, and congratulations to everyone who helped make this their most successful event this year! If you are interested in visiting or volunteering at the museum, please visit their website at: https://agassizharrisonmuseum.org/.

The Deputy Mayor also gave an update on summer programs at the library including the Summer Reading Club which is open to kids, teens, and adults. If you are interested in joining the Fraser Valley Regional Library Summer Reading Club, please visit https://www.fvrl.bc.ca/summer_reading_clubs.php.

As a result of a presentation by Chilliwack-Kent MLA Kelli Paddon, Ms. Miel Berstein, Ms. Tiffany Francis, and Ms. Elina Kurahashi on menstrual equity, Council approved a motion to refer to staff to report back as to supporting the initiative to offer free menstrual products in District facilities.

Ms. Berstein also provided an update about the status of the organization, saying that they are now non-profit society and are working on becoming a registered charity.

If you or your organization would like to support menstrual equity, please visit either https://www.projectaimcommunity.com/ or https://uwbc.ca/program/period-promise/ for more information on how to get started. If you are looking for support, or know someone in need, please contact Project AIM at projectaimcommunity@gmail.com or 1-604-889-2235.
