Agassiz, British Columbia – The District of Kent would like to thank Christopher’s Spring Water, Agassiz Produce, and Super Valu for the donation of bottled water and light refreshments for the cooling centre at Agricultural Hall on June 26th through to the 29th.
The District would also like to thank Seabird Island Band for partnering to extend the cooling centre to June 29th for residents of both communities.
A special thank you to the five members of the Kent-Harrison Emergency Support Services team for volunteering to staff the cooling centre which was operational from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
The phenomenon known as a heat dome settled over British Columbia setting record-breaking temperatures throughout the province. As a response, the District opened a cooling centre as another option for residents to escape the heat and used social media to warn the public of the extreme temperatures.
The District would like to remind residents of the importance of staying hydrated, watching for signs of heat illness, and checking on family friends and neighbours during the summer months.
