Agassiz, British Columbia – As Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the Fraser Valley, the District of Kent will temporarily open Agricultural Hall, 6800 Pioneer Avenue located in Centennial Park, as a cooling centre for residents to find relief from the high temperatures.
The cooling centre will be open from 2 pm to 6 pm on the following days:
Friday, July 30; and
Saturday, July 31.
This heat event may increase the potential for heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion, heat stroke and worsening pre-existing health conditions that can lead to hospitalization or death.
Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place, check on older family, friends, and neighbours, never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle, watch for symptoms of heat illness: dizziness/fainting; nausea/vomiting; rapid breathing and heartbeat; extreme thirst.
