Mayor's Update
Mayor Pranger and all of Council attended the Canada Day celebration on July 1, in Pioneer Park. Councillor Post complimented staff for pulling together such a great event and the Agassiz Fire Department for their work. Mayor Pranger noted each year is better than the last, and this year the pancake breakfast fundraiser, hosted by the Agassiz Harrison Aquanauts Swim Club, raised $1,000 for the Lets'emot Regional Recreation & Aquatic Centre.

Rural Road Paving Projects 2024
At its Special Meeting held on July 3, 2024, Council approved the ISL Engineering recommendation for All Roads Construction Ltd. to complete the Rural Road Paving Projects 2024. This project will include seven speed humps and road reclamations for Mountain View Road, Fir Road, Mill Road, Cartier Road and Kennedy Road. Construction will begin by the end of August, with two construction crews working simultaneously, and is projected to take seven weeks to complete. Local Government Management Association (LGMA) Awards
On behalf of Council, Mayor Pranger presented District of Kent CAO Wallace Mah with the Distinguished Member Award and the Life Membership Award from the LGMA. Mr. Mah has been involved with the LGMA since the early 1980's and has previously received the LGMA award for professional leadership. Mayor Pranger congratulated Mr. Mah on his achievements with the LGMA and noted his outstanding contributions and commitment to the District as well. Director of Corporate Services Clair Lee received the LGMA Long Service Pin for her 25 years of service. Mayor Pranger noted how proud she is that Mrs. Lee, who began working for the District in 2008, is still with the District today.
National Drowning Prevention Week Proclamation 2024
Mayor and Council have officially declared July 21 – 27, 2024 National Drowning Prevention Week in the District of Kent. In BC, during 2023, 100 people died from drowning, to raise awareness of this issue the United Nations General Assembly named July 25 of each year World Drowning Prevention Day. Swimming is an important life skill which is why the District works with local schools to provide seasonal access to the Ferny Coombe Pool. Private and semi private swimming lessons are available at the Ferny Coombe Pool along with a range of aquatic programs. The completion of the Lets'emot Regional Recreation & Aquatic Centre will create year-round accessibility for this life skill. All contributors exceeding $25.00 will receive a tax receipt, and donations of $250 or more will also receive commemorative apparel.
3rd Annual Broken Whisk Car and Bike Show
Council has approved the Broken Whisk's request to close Pioneer Avenue for their 3rd Annual Car and Bike Show on Sunday August 18, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This event will include classic cars, motorbikes, a DJ, and $10 BBQ lunch. Learn more by visiting the Broken Whisk Facebook Page.
48th Annual British Columbia Oldtimer's (BCOT) Motocross Club Event
The 48th Annual BCOT Motocross Event on August 2-4, 2024, will be taking place at the Agassiz Motocross Park (5085 Cemetery Road). BCOT was given permission to use Alm Park, to learn more about BCOT and their upcoming races visit: https://www.bcotmotocross.com/
Earthwise Agassiz Community Orchard Grand Opening
On June 27, 2024 Mayor Pranger and Councillor Spaeti attended the Agassiz Harrison Community Services Society and Earthwise Society grand opening of the Earthwise Agassiz Community Orchard. Mayor Pranger noted how important it is that the community sees how food is raised and where it comes from.
