Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems will be supplied and installed by Lakeside Automation for the Agassiz Townsite and Mount Woodside water and sewer systems, as approved by Council as part of the second phase of upgrades planned for the water and sewer system upgrades.
SCADA systems remotely monitor and control the water and wastewater systems by collecting and analyzing real-time data, and are essential in ensuring optimal responses to measured conditional responses. The systems also increase operations efficiencies, improvements management of critical equipment failure and minimizes the possibility of environmental disasters.
Phase 1 began in June 2018, which involved an upgrade to the Agassiz Townsite and Rockwell Bay systems, that streamlined and integrated the monitors into one common control system.
Phase 2 adds the Agassiz Wastewater Treatment Plant and Mount Woodside utilities infrastructure to the new SCADA interface. Funding for the $43,000 upgrades is included in the District's 2019 water and sewer capital plan.
The District has successfully launched its new website, now with a refreshed design that complies with the latest
requirements set by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines standard.
Council awarded the Request for Proposal to eSolutions Group in November 2018 for the development and design of a new website. The modern layout now emphasises a positive user experience, easier navigation, mobile-friendly design and has a prominent search bar with optimized search engine for faster access to information and services.
Integrated features like PerfectMind software allow users to view the seasonal Leisure Guide and register for programs. An events calendar is included that highlights local activities at the Community Recreation and Cultural Centre, Agassiz Library,
community events and Council meetings.
A call for submissions is currently open for the public to have their photos featured on the new website. Selected images will receive a photo credit and will have the opportunity to be used in other District publications, including social media. If you would like to submit an image, send it to media@kentbc.ca
Let us know what you think of the new site by clicking on the Website Feedback option at the bottom of any page.
The Agassiz Fire Department will be submitting an application to the Farm Credit Canada Agri-Spirit Fund Grant. If successful, the funding opportunity could provide up to $25,000 to help the Fire Department purchase additional dynamic rescue supplies to equip their 4x4 truck.
The Fire Department is the rescue contact for Public Works, Utilities and the general public if someone were to become trapped in a confined space. In order to facilitate a dynamic rescue, crews require pulleys, harnesses and ropes. This equipment is currently kept on the Fire Department’s freightliner vehicle, which is limited in the areas it can access due to its size and shape. A secondary set would assist firefighters in completing simultaneous rescues, if needed, and would be kept in the 4x4 vehicle in the event that an off-road rescue is required.
The next Regular Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 8 at 7:00 p.m.
