Arctic Outflow Warning

Environment Canada has issued an Arctic Outflow Warning for our area and we are asking residents to take measures to ensure that they stay safe during potentially dangerous low temperatures.

Tips for Staying Warm:

  • Wear warm and waterproof clothing
  • Layer your clothes (including wind and waterproof outer layers)
  • Wear a hat and face mask or scarf, and thick mittens rather than gloves
  • Choose wool socks and properly fitted, waterproof boots

Learn the signs for cold-related illness and injuries:

  • Frostbite is the freezing of the skin and tissues below the skin
  • Hypothermia occurs when the body gets too cold and loses heat faster than the body can replace it

For medical attention, please call:

  • 9-1-1 for emergencies
  • 8-1-1 for health-related illnesses and advice
  • 2-1-1 to connect with other services (including shelter lists)

Find Overnight Shelter:

BC Housing provides an interactive map you can use to find a shelter near you or you can call the Shelter and Street Help Line directly (2-1-1 will also direct you to your nearest shelter).

Snow Shoveling Tips:

  • Help keep your neighbourhood safe by clearing the snow and ice from the sidewalks around your property within 24 hours of the last snow fall
  • Clear storm drains of leaves and snow to prevent flooding and icy road conditions if temperatures are freezing
  • Park vehicles in driveways to make room for snowplows
  • Avoid placing snow on the roadway, pile it on your property instead
  • If you must place snow on the roadway, place it to the right (when facing the roadway) so plows will not re-plow snow back into your driveway
  • If you park on a major road, please give yourself extra time to leave your spot after the snowplow has passed

Power Outage:

Prepare ahead of time for a potential power outage by ensuring your home is stocked with water, flashlights, non-perishable food (and pet food), and any medications you may require.

Fraser Health has a handy Winter Readiness Checklist you can use to make sure you are prepared for extreme cold weather.

Report Snow and Ice Problems:

To report non-emergency snow and ice service request please call Municipal Hall, during regular office hours, at 604-796-2235. You can also use our snow app to find out which roads will be cleared first. The app also has links to traffic cameras and other useful information.

For detailed information on the District’s snow and ice control plans and priority areas, please visit our Snow and Ice Control page.

Public Works Hours:
Monday to Thursday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Friday 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM
