Many properties and homes in the District of Kent are serviced by private groundwater wells. Most wells draw from the productive Agassiz Aquifer, which is recharged by the Fraser River.
There is very little regulatory oversight for the domestic use of private wells. Homeowners are responsible for ensuring the water is safe for drinking, cooking and household sanitation.
The Province offers a list of approved water quality testing labs that can help ensure the safety and quality of your drinking water. Just go to the "Matrix" drop down menu and select the desired test to find a lab that will perform it. Fraser Health also has a page dedicated to drinking water. Other helpful resources from the local health authority include:
There are two provincial observation wells in Agassiz (Well 448 on Wilson Road and Well 449 on Morrow Road) that residents can find data provided by the province on groundwater quality and levels.
For any other questions regarding the use of private wells in the District, please contact Municipal Hall.
