From...a seasonal outdoor pool

Our beloved Ferny Coombe Pool was built in 1978 and has become a vital community asset in the District of Kent and home to the Agassiz-Harrison Aquanauts.

Having taught thousands of children skills and sportsmanship through the District of Kent's Learn to Swim program, the Ferny Coombe Pool provides residents from the District of Kent, neighbouring First Nation communities, Village of Harrison Hot Springs, Rosedale and Popkum a place for family and friends to make memories for generations to come.

With original pool structure that is past the initial life expectancy, we anticipate that any significant structural or mechanical failure will be beyond repair. Without a swimming pool in Agassiz, it would certainly effect all of our communities.

To...a year-round indoor aquatic centre

The benefits of a Regional Aquatic Centre Include:
  • More local programs reduces the need to travel to large municipalities and supports our regions economy.
  • Inclusive year round social and physical programs enables all residents to participate equally and equitably. Including but not limited to swim lessons, Aquafit, lane swimming, leisure swims, birthday parties, community events, therapeutic and rehabilitative services.
  • Water safety is an essential lifelong skill and a necessity when living near water such as the Fraser River and Harrison Lake.
  • Amateur sport enriches our community's spirit and supports our region's overall health, wellbeing, and volunteerism.

Operating Costs

Operating a year-round indoor aquatic facility will result in an increase to the operating budget. The cost to run the Ferny Coombe Pool (open for four months) is covered by user fees and subsidized by general taxation (approximately $135,000). The District continues to pursue other funding options to offset these costs including community sponsorship and regional partnerships.
