Junior Lifeguard (Up to 4 Positions) Competition #2025-06 |
We have an exciting opportunity for positive and energetic individuals to fill Junior Lifeguard (Time Durated) positions at the outdoor Ferny Coombe Pool for the upcoming season.
The Junior Lifeguard position is intended to offer an opportunity for new and aspiring Lifeguards to gain experience that would help them progress to Lifeguard/Instructor I and II positions as their skills develop.
The primary role of the Junior Lifeguard would be to complement the existing Aquatic Team and help to ensure public safety during busy public swim times and special events. Junior Lifeguards work on deck, alongside Lifeguard/Instructor's I or II's, with the opportunity to obtain valuable lifeguarding work experience and skills.
Under the supervision of the Aquatic Leader, and with the guidance of the Lifeguard/Instructor II's, the Junior Lifeguards will be responsible for ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all patrons utilizing the Ferny Coombe Pool.
We are looking for individuals who possess current National Lifeguard Service (pool option) certification, Standard First Aid (or equivalent), and CPR Level C.

Pay and benefits for these bargaining unit auxiliary positions are in accordance with the Collective Agreement, CUPE Local 458. The 2025 post-probationary wage rate for this position is $23.41 per hour plus 14.0% in lieu of benefits

We have an exciting opportunity for positive and energetic individuals to fill Lifeguard / Instructor I (Time Durated) positions at the outdoor Ferny Coombe Pool for the upcoming season.
Working within the Recreation, Culture & Projects Department, the successful candidates will assist the Lifeguard / Instructor II’s to ensure a safe and fun aquatic environment. Duties will include: performing lifeguarding duties; ensuring the safety of patrons utilizing the aquatic facility and supervising the use of the swimming and related recreation areas; supporting the Lifeguard / Instructor II in emergency situations; performing first aid as required and completing incident forms; performing maintenance tasks as directed; and conducting instructional and recreational aquatic programs.
We are looking for individuals who possess current National Lifeguard Service (pool option), Lifesaving Society – Swim for Life Instructor certification (previously WSI), and First Aid / CPR Level C. Additional certifications such as High Five and FOODSAFE are an asset.

We have an exciting opportunity for positive and energetic individuals to fill Lifeguard / Instructor II (Time Durated) positions at the outdoor Ferny Coombe Pool for the upcoming season.
Working within the Recreation, Culture & Projects Department, the successful candidates will be responsible for: leading the on-deck supervision of the aquatic area or designated aquatics program; providing support and direction to staff; taking the lead on responding to incidents; corresponding with patrons; providing feedback to the Lifeguard / Instructor I; leading pool events and activities; and performing pool maintenance and reporting.
We are looking for individuals who possess current National Lifeguard Service (pool option), Lifesaving Society – Swim for Life Instructor certification (previously WSI), Pool Operator Level I, and First Aid / CPR Level C. Additional certifications such as High Five and FOODSAFE are an asset.
