Engineering Technologist II - Competition #2023-06

The District of Kent is offering an exciting opportunity in our Engineering Services Department for an Engineering Technologist II.


This key role assists management in achieving efficient operation of the Engineering Services Department. The incumbent will be accountable to the Director of Engineering Services and responsible for all technical work related to the tasks assigned. The incumbent will be required to perform complex duties in accordance with well-defined project objectives, engineering practices, and District policies.


The ideal candidate will possess:

 

  • A post secondary degree or diploma in Civil Engineering.
  • A minimum of 3 years work experience of diversified and progressively more responsible work in a municipal engineering, environment, or recognized equivalent training and experience in an engineering, environmental service/monitoring, and project inspection environment.
  • Must be a registered member of the Association of Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC.


The wage rate for this bargaining unit position is $41.60 per hour. Upon successful completion of the required probationary period the wage will increase to $48.94 per hour plus a comprehensive benefit package.

Engineering Technologist II Job Description

Cashier / Receptionist (Casual) - Competition #2023-16

We have an exciting opportunity for a positive, energetic, self-motivated, and team-oriented customer service representative to join our team as a casual Cashier / Receptionist at the Community, Recreation and Cultural Centre (CRCC) located in Agassiz.


Under the direction of the Recreation Facilities Clerk, the Cashier / Receptionist will perform a variety of duties ranging from meeting and greeting the public; handling recreation-based questions; assisting with processing manual and /or computerized school, public and user group programs, facility bookings and registrations; and cash register operation and summaries, including reconciling cash sheets. This is a public-facing position where you will utilize your strong customer service skills to interact with the public.


Required qualifications:

 

  • Grade 12, supplemented by administrative courses or other related training and/or experience;
  • General knowledge of the sport, fitness and recreation industry;
  • General knowledge of basic mathematical calculations;
  • Competency in Word, PerfectMind, graphics programs, and website searches is an asset; and
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.


Pay and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Agreement, CUPE Local 458. The 2023 post-probation wage rate for this position is $25.61 per hour plus 14.0% in lieu of benefits. You must be available for shifts from 4 to 8 hours in duration, anytime between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., inclusive of evenings, weekends and some holidays. This casual position will not exceed 75 hours per month.

These key individuals plan, organize, and deliver lesson plans/recreation curriculum in conjunction with the Recreation Programmer or Designate.


Program & Event Examples: Introduction to sport, art, dance, music, lifelong learning programs and the Agassiz Minor Soccer League. Demos or “Try It” classes at Canada Day, Family Day or other community events.


The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum of one (1) year of continuous work experience, or combination of both related education, training, and work experience, instructing children, youth and/or adults in a recreation or education environment in area of interest.
  • Sport Programs: Minimum of NCCP Community Sport (Introductory Level) and “Move to Play” Training.
  • Art, Music, Dance and Design Programs: Minimum of enrollment in an Accredited Post-Secondary Creative Art Institution or equivalent education/training with a professional association.
  • Lifelong Learning Programs: Minimum of enrollment in an Accredited Post-Secondary Institution in area of specialty or equivalent education/training with professional association.

Activity Leaders are also responsible for supervising participants in the program.

Junior Lifeguard - Up 3 Time Durated Positions - Competition #2023-01

We have an exciting opportunity for positive and energetic individuals to fill Junior Lifeguard (Time Durated) positions at the outdoor Ferny Coombe Pool.

 

The Junior Lifeguard position is intended to offer an opportunity for new and aspiring Lifeguards to gain experience that would help them progress to Lifeguard/Instructor I and II positions as their skills develop. These positions will start during a mandatory in-service training week scheduled to commence April 24, 2023.


The primary role of the Junior Lifeguard would be to complement the existing Aquatic Team and help to ensure public safety during busy public swim times and special events. Junior Lifeguards would work on deck, alongside Lifeguard/Instructor’s I or II’s with the opportunity to obtain valuable lifeguarding work experience and skills. Under the supervision of the Recreation Programmer or designate, and with the guidance of the Lifeguard/Instructor II’s, the Junior Lifeguards will be responsible for ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all patrons utilizing the Ferny Coombe Pool. We are looking for individuals who possess current National Lifeguard Service (pool option) certification, Standard First Aid (or equivalent), and CPR Level C.
