Building permits ensure that all buildings comply with safety, health, building and zoning requirements of the District of Kent and the Province of British Columbia.

You must have a building permit prior to:

  • New construction
  • Alterations
  • Reconstruction
  • Demolition
  • Removal, relocation or change of occupancy of any building (or structure) including excavation or other work related to construction.

As of January 1, 2024, asbestos abatement contractors must be licensed to operate in British Columbia, and anyone performing asbestos abatement work must complete mandatory safety training and obtain certificates.
